This program is designed to offer free counseling to young adults, ages 15 to 22, who aren't otherwise connected to mental health services or support. This program fits well for seniors who have been receiving counseling services through the high school but won't have support after graduation, recent graduates, or early college students who are in need of a counselor.  There are drop in hours from 2-5 in Paso at Generation Next on Monday, Thursday, and Fridays or by appointment for alternative locations and times.  Contact Jenny Gustavson, Young Adult Consulting, at 781-4290 or by email jgustavson@co.slo.ca.us

College Preparation Practice Tests 2012-2013

The PSAT, practice SAT, will be offered at THS on October 17, 2012.   The cost for the PSAT is $15 per student.

The PLAN, practice ACT, will be offered at THS on November 14, 2012.  The cost for the PLAN is $12 per student.

These tests are offered every year, once a year.  They are excellent opportunities for students to prepare for taking the real exams required as part of the 4 yr college and university applications.  Students receive their results, along with all the questions and and answers, as well as opportunites for improvement.   All students are encouraged to register for this opportunity.  Juniors and sophomores will be given priority.    We are currently accepting payments for these exams beginning September of 2012.  Purchase exams online or in person in our THS ASB office.

Please see the College Preparation page for additional information on both of these tests.

Cuesta College for THS Seniors

THS seniors have the opportunity to take advantage of Cuesta's priority registration each year.  Seniors will take part in a 3 step process before registering for their classes.  We recommend that every senior takes part in this process regardless of their intended college plans.  The information is very useful and it's good to have a local back up option for college and/or vocational training.

Application-  We will meet with all seniors in the month of December to complete the online application.

Assessment-  Student must complete an assessment in Math and English- The assessments will be offered at THS in February, actual dates TBA..

Orientation-  All senior who have completed the two steps above will be invited to attend an orientation at Cuesta during the month of April.  We typically make the visit a field trip.  Students recieve their individual assessment results and very useful information about college opportunities, classes, degrees, etc.  They will aslo receive smaller group and individual information relative the what they want to get from Cuesta eg: certificate or vocational training, 2 yr degree, transfer to a UC or CSU.

Register Online- After the 3 steps have been completed above, the online registration window opens in June.

Senior College Bulletin

THS seniors planning to apply to a 4yr college or university should have already taken the SAT or ACT, however, it is not too late!   You also have time to re-take any of the exams to improve your score.  Most California and out of state universities will accept the SAT or ACT taken in the first few months of senior year.  California schools prefer them to be completed prior to December of the senior year.  It is highly recommended that you research the preference of the colleges you are interested in.  See the section below for additional information on college preparation tests.

Applications for California State Universities are accepted online between October 1 and November 30. www.csumentor.edu

Applications for the University of California are accepted online between November 1-30.  http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergraduate.html

Contact your counselor to obtain a copy of your transcript and to discuss your plans.

All seniors will be invited and encouraged to participate in the application, assessment, and orientation for Cuesta Community College.  More information will be available through your counselors and delivered to your senior classes.  Typically the application process takes place at THS during the month of December.
